“Yoga is like music: the rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind,
and the harmony of the soul create the symphony of life.”
― B.K.S. Iyengar
Kara Ashley's Philosophy
Yoga is something that every person could and should incorporate into their lives. Yoga brings nothing but positivity and beauty into our lives. Every single person can do yoga. Experience, flexibility, size, age.... none of it matters, every body is a yoga body! Whether you are a beginner or well into your practice, there is always something new to learn about yourself. So lets get moving and learn together on the mat!
What is Yoga?
Any class where you practice poses is called Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga refers to the practice of yoga asanas, or poses. In the western world, where we categorize things, there are numerous types of yoga classes from Ashtanga, Bikram, Hot, Iyengar, Restorative, Vinyasa etc.
I come from a background of Iyengar influenced Hatha training through my teacher, Marianne Wells. Mix the knowledge gained from my studies with strength building asanas, sprinkle it with a few yin poses and meditation, and top it with a bit of fun! I teach to my students individual needs, bringing back body and mind awareness in a world where it is so easily forgotten.
How can you benefit from Yoga?
The asanas, or poses are designed to help bring balance to the body, mentally, physically and spiritually.
Whatever your reason is for being drawn to yoga, there is always an undeniable benefit and it always varies from person to person, but you will always be glad you brought yourself to the mat that day.
Many notice that the postures create mental balance. The anxious learn to relax. The sluggish gain more energy and drive. Anger issues begin to dissipate. We learn how to take care of ourselves.
“We must create a marriage between the awareness of the body and that of the mind.
When two parties do not cooperate, there is unhappiness on both sides.”
― B.K.S. Iyengar
